Kitchen Expansion
Tolka Millwork completes a wide range of renovation work throughout Greater Vancouver, from heritage to contemporary design. This finished renovation was entered in the National Sam Awards for Best Kitchen.
The original house at the time of the renovation was only about 15 years old. The need for the renovation grew from: a growing family, the need to supervise kids’ activities, changing entertainment style, and a more open floorplan.

Some of the challenges and features involved:
- Bearing wall removed to open kitchen into existing family room
- Kitchen increased from 130 to 225 square feet
- Designed for easy access and room for two chefs to work
- Cabinets with oversized shaker doors and panels in an oyster white finish
- Contrasting island and range hood in black walnut
- Beamed and crowned ceiling detail created to integrate new structural work
- Recycled oak floor added to blend into existing
- Tri-lighting system of hanging, recessed and accent fixtures utilized
- Innovative storage system – every full cabinet shelf/drawer is full extension!
- Special features: birch-veneer inner-cabinets; custom drawer sizing; full height pantry;
baking centre; large spice-tray pullout; wine rack; unique liqueur cabinet with
lighting; and a computer-study centre.
